eLearn Module:  Reality Testing

Yesterday was Mark Twain’s birthday; writer of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (isn’t Google Wonderful?!?).So, I thought it fitting that I use a quote from Mr. Twain to highlight what is most needed this time of year in a student’s life…a work ethic. I know, I know, it is hard to dig deep these days. Everyone is exhausted and overwhelmed. You know what? If you don’t dig deep, work hard, get started, get it finished, do what you have to do…whatever it is…you will start to feel even more overwhelmed and tired by procrastinating or justifying. Procrastinating just puts off what you eventually have to do and the time you spending worrying about it just wears you out. Procrastinating interferes with your “down-time”, the time that you need to recuperate and get the energy back that you need to get your work done. Justifying why you can’t, won’t, are unable to complete the work, just makes you feel badly about yourself, which takes a hit on your energy. So, if you want to be successful this semester, just dig deep and do it. Shut your evaluating mind off and start getting tasks done!

Today…think about your own Work Ethic. What are your values around hard work and diligence? Do you believe that working hard and persevering helps build your character? Are you a reliable person that people can depend on (what you promise you deliver)?

Today think about why you are working hard this semester. What are the goals that you are trying to achieve? How will the pain that you are going through right now be worth it later?

You need to know why you are working so hard to be able to keep up the effort!

Tomorrow…Watch for my upload “Tips for Developing Your Work Ethic”
