12 Things that Happy People Do Differently
#3 Happy People Avoid Unhealthy Social Comparison
Comparing yourself to someone else can be detrimental; but sometimes helpful. If we’re somehow ‘better’ than the person that we’re comparing ourselves to, it gives us an unhealthy sense of superiority; if we are ‘worse’, in our perception, it weakens our self esteem. Social Comparison is only helpful if it further helps you to find your uniqueness, your talents and your wellbeing. If it leads to you “discounting your positives”, be mindful, think about the impact it is having on you and dig deep to find your gifts and talents. For social comparison to benefit us, the motivation needs to come from a healthy place.
